This article reviews possibility of implementation in using remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) for public transportation in Thailand. Drone taxi is the type of RPAS which is the main focus in this article. Implementation of the drone taxi for public use is discussed along with the regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). Drone is one of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The technology of drone has been improved rapidly. In recent years, the multi-rotor drone was introduced and brought into commercial applications and has been used publicly not just for military purpose. It has been used widely as a toy or even a professional equipment. However, the application of using drone in public areas is still limited. This limitation is mainly about the use of air space which is defined by ICAO and the local aviation authorities, e.g., Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). In the last few years, there have been many of ideas in implementing drone as a taxi. In this article, designs and safety related issues are discussed. Also, the operation procedure and the drone taxi ports are also concerned. Implementation of drone taxi claims to result in lower carbon footprint. Therefore, it is much interesting whether the drone taxi will contribute to the green and sustainable transportation system.
